Simple farming guides made for busy growers.

Short, simple guides. Easy to read, easy to follow — created with expert knowledge.

Best farming practices

Seven habits that keep fields healthy and yields steady.

01

Soil

  • Test pH and NPK once a year.
  • Add compost or manure to loosen soil.
  • Keep drains open so water does not stand.
02

Water

  • Water early morning or evening.
  • Use drip if possible to save 40-60 percent water.
  • Wet soil only as needed; soggy soil brings disease.
03

Seed & spacing

  • Use clean, certified seed that fits your area.
  • Keep even spacing so air and light reach plants.
  • Treat seed if pests are common in your field.
04

Feeding

  • Follow soil test for NPK; apply in 2-3 small doses.
  • Add compost or green manure to keep soil alive.
  • Avoid too much nitrogen; pests love soft growth.
05

Pests

  • Walk the field every 3-4 days; check under leaves.
  • Use simple traps and remove sick plants early.
  • Rotate crops to break pest life cycles.
06

Weeds

  • Control weeds in the first month.
  • Mulch to block new weeds.
  • Use herbicide only as directed.
07

Harvest

  • Harvest at the right stage; handle gently.
  • Dry grains well and store in clean, sealed bins.

Guides for 100+ crops

Copy this format for any crop.

Here are quick samples. Repeat the same blocks for more crops.

Rice

Soil clay loam, pH 5.5-7. Temp 25-35 C. Rainfall above 1200 mm. Keep 2-4 inch water.

Feed: Basal 45-60 N, 30 P, 30 K; Tillering 30-40 N; Panicle 20 N.
Watch: brown plant hopper, stem borer, blast.
Maize

Soil pH 6-7.5. Temp 18-27 C. Rainfall 500-800 mm.

Feed: Basal NPK 10:26:26; top dress urea in two splits.
Watch: fall armyworm, leaf blight.
Potato

Soil sandy loam. Temp 15-20 C. Cool weather works best.

Feed: NPK 75:50:100 plus gypsum and boron.
Watch: potato tuber moth.
Tomato

Soil well-drained loam. Temp 21-24 C.

Feed: NPK 75:50:50 plus 10 tons compost per acre.
Watch: fruit borer, whiteflies, early blight.
Capsicum

Soil sandy loam. Temp 20-30 C.

Feed: Basal NPK with micronutrients; split nitrogen at flowering.
Banana

Soil deep loam. Temp 26-30 C. Loves water.

Feed: 200 g N, 50 g P, 300 g K per plant each month.

Fertilizer schedules

Easy stage-wise feeding plan.

By growth stage
  • Basal: Compost/FYM 10-20 tons per acre. Apply full P and K. Give 25 percent of N.
  • Vegetative: Add 25-30 percent N. Add micronutrients if leaves show yellow or pale spots.
  • Flowering: Add 20-30 percent N. Do not overdo nitrogen or flowers drop.
  • Fruiting or grain fill: Add potash (K) to improve size, taste, and color.
Typical NPK ranges (kg/acre)

Use soil test to adjust: low = full dose, medium = about 75 percent, high = reduce.

How to test soil

Quick steps to collect, test, and act.

Collect
  • Take soil from 5-10 spots.
  • Depth: 6 inches for veg/field crops; 12 inches for fruit crops.
  • Remove stones and roots. Mix and dry in shade.
Test
  • Check pH, EC (salt), N, P, K, organic carbon, zinc, boron, iron.

Integrated pest management

Safe, step-by-step pest control.

Five steps
  • Prevent: Clean field, good spacing, resistant varieties.
  • Watch: Scout twice a week; use traps; act early.
  • Biology: Use neem, Bt, ladybird beetles, Trichogramma.
  • Chemical last: Use only registered sprays; rotate groups; follow harvest gap.
  • Culture: Rotate crops, deep plough, and remove weeds.
